Bassetlaw CCG helps to fund The Sleep Charity

The Covid-19 global pandemic continues to provide additional challenges for many organisations and charities, but South Yorkshire-based, The Sleep Charity, is still striving to carry on having a big impact in the area.  Over the past 12 months, the award-winning charity has continued to provide its successful sleep service in Bassetlaw, thanks to funding from the local clinical commissioning group (CCG).

Said Lisa Artis, deputy CEO of The Sleep Charity: “Supporting those with sleep issues has never been more important.  The enquiries that we receive have increased significantly and become more complex in their nature.  The staff team has worked under enormous pressure, embracing our mission ‘to empower the nation to sleep better.”

With restrictions easing around face-to-face training, the charity was able to finally get out into the community with one of its practitioners who covers the Bassetlaw sleep service.

Said Lisa: “Our practitioner held two days of 1:1 sleep consultations with parents at a school in Worksop, Bassetlaw. In total 11 parents of 13 children were seen over the two days – all were given 30mins to 1 hour each to discuss the difficulties they were finding with their children’s sleep.”

“All parents were given a sleep booklet with a routine that fitted in with the family and with timings suited to the child.  They were offered further support after making the changes and have access to phone or email support when required.  Parents were also given the opportunity for any questions and also made sure they understood why we recommend the things we do.”

Feedback from one parent: “The practitioner has been amazing with us. She has taken our antics in her stride and helped us through what felt like a difficult situation. She was calm, informative and best of all showed she was human (which can sometimes lack with professionals). Thanks to her, we feel comfortable enough to walk away and stand on our own two feet. Highly recommend this charity and the practitioner.”

Added Lisa: “We are committed to our mission that sleep is taken seriously across all age groups and we will never stop striving to achieve that!”
